Research

Research at the Cheshire campus comes with pedigree and an international reputation. In the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), much of the research at Cheshire was rated as either 'World Leading' or 'Internationally-Excellent'.

Key highlights included staff in Exercise and Sport Science contributing to the highly successful Allied Health Professions research submission that positioned the University 12th overall and top new University for research power in this discipline. Research in Music, Drama, Dance and Performing Arts, was also judged to have internationally excellent and world-leading elements. Other significant contributions to the REF included high quality submissions in Art and Design, Education, Engineering, English, History, Philosophy, and Social Work and Social Policy.

Our research continues to make a significant impact on local, national and international society, health, economies, culture, public policy, services, the environment and quality of life.

Student benefits

The Cheshire campus's research achievements demonstrate our strengths in fundamental and applied science, and artistic and applied social science research, while always reflecting the rich, supportive and dynamic research environment available for students to progress their learning. Many of the research activities at Cheshire demonstrate excellence in multi- and interdisciplinarity.

The close relationship between our research portfolio and our teaching and learning provision means that both undergraduates and postgraduates benefit from the latest developments in the field. All students benefit from research-informed, research-led and research-involved learning and teaching practices. Students in our large postgraduate research community have opportunities to contribute to seminars and develop their own academic skills and practices.

With many staff also holding professional qualifications that allow for exciting opportunities in applied research, knowledge exchange or practice-based research, the Cheshire campus really is the place where you and your research can truly make a difference.
