FLARE International Festival of New Theatre 2017 hits Manchester

Manchester poet Tony Walsh, aka Longfella, and rock band PINS are helping to open the Flare International Festival of New Theatre on Tuesday this week at HOME.

Friday 30 June, 2017

On until Saturday 8 July, and taking place at HOME, The Royal Exchange, Contact, The Lowry, the Martin Harris Centre and No.70 Oxford St, the festival presents 20 extraordinary new theatre pieces by emerging international theatre artists.

Run by Artistic Director Neil Mackenzie, also Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre and Performance at Manchester Met, and a large team including academic colleagues, several recent graduates and current students, and featuring current Contemporary Theatre and Performance students DEAD PIG, the festival is attracting international programmers from across Europe and from Australia.

"This comfortably the biggest and best iteration of the festival so far," says Neil Mackenzie. "It’s great to have so much support and involvement from across Manchester Met, helping to host so many international artists and professionals here in Manchester. We’re expecting an exhausting week, but it is going to be great!"

Tickets and full information about the festival are available from or the participating venues.
