Manchester Metropolitan University and Newcastle-under-Lyme College joined forces in 2005 to establish their football academy for local school-leavers. Students taking part in the scheme will work towards a BTEC Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Performance, delivered by Newcastle College at MMU Cheshire's Alsager Campus. You will be trained by UFEA qualifed coaches 4 days a week at MMU Cheshire and combine study in subjects such as Anatomy, Nutrition and Fitness Testing. For one day each week, the team will travel to Newcastle-under-Lyme College for academic classes as well as being able to access further support.
The students play their games on a Wednesday in a number of leagues with the home games held on the Alsager Campus of MMU Cheshire and on the 3G facilities at Crewe Alexandra Soccer Centre.
The games programme and coaching is very structured, we do encourage players to carry on playing for their weekend clubs but attendance at training, matches and the academic programme take precedence. The academy programme runs Monday - Friday and weekends are free for players to play for their selected clubs.
The coaching staff has abundant knowledge of clubs in the area plus national contacts if players need advice and guidance.
