The Department is one of the most successful in the area of Exercise and Sport Science in the UK.
The Department has a strong research profile and nearly half the staff were returned in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise with over 75% rates as International standard, for more information visit the Institute for Performance Research (IPR). A good proportion of the sport science support for World Class Performance Programmes is based within the Department and this has led to applied research specifically designed to support athletics, canoeing, climbing, football, hockey, rowing, shooting, swimming, and sports for disabled athletes.
We offer undergraduate degree programmes in Sport and Exercise Science, Coaching and Sport Development, Leisure Management and Sports Management in addition you can take, Coaching, Exercise, Sport or Sports Development with a number of combinations in the Combined Honours Scheme. From September 2010 we will also be offering Physical Education (non QTS) and Sport and Leisure Events Management. We also have a distance learning BSc (Hons) Sport Science for those who wish to study whilst they work or compete.
Postgraduate provision includes a number of programmes in Sport, Exercise and Coaching Science disciplines either in full- or part-time mode. We also have an MSc in the Science of Sports Injuries for those with a medical (medicine, physiotherapy, podiatry, ostoepathy etc) qualification. We also support a full range of research degrees.
The department moved into a brand new building on our Crewe campus in November 2010.
