Research into television drama was ‘flagged’ at the last RAE and continues to be a strong and developing area. Monographs on Quality TV Drama (Professor Robin Nelson) and an edited collection on popular television drama are in preparation. Researchers (Lez Cooke and Dr Janet McCabe) are contributing further to the area with work on regional British television drama as well as feminist television criticism and contemporary American television. Contemporary Arts is just concluding a three-year AHRC-funded research project in television drama. An international, hardcopy journal (with online access) on small screen fictions, entitled Critical Studies in Television (www.criticalstudiesintelevision.com) has been launched, and a major international conference on global/local/regional television was held at MMU Cheshire in late Summer, 2006.
