Our links with arts organisations, festivals, community groups, charities and businesses, enable students to make links within industry and apply learning though a range of placements and work-based learning opportunities.

CAT Radio (community on-line station)

Through 2011-2012 a weekly radio programme was hosted and sponsored by Axis Arts Centre (based at MMU Cheshire Campus). Opportunities for students to host programmes, volunteer in production and/or showcase work on the station are available.

We have a long-standing relationship with our Regional Dance Development Agency, Cheshire Dance. Previous links include dance artists delivering workshops and classes for MMU students, invitations to Continued Professional Development events, volunteer placements and paid work for graduates.

Cutting Hedge is a new partnership between Cheshire Rural Touring Arts and Axis Arts Centre (based on MMU Cheshire Campus), touring artistically challenging and unusual work to rural venues in Cheshire.

We annually host an initiative run by the School Sports Partnership aimed at getting those in Secondary education not involved in dance, to dance. Dance Alive is a 2-day event hosted by the department with event management and choreography/facilitation roles available to our students.

Flare Festival

Flare runs festivals, weekenders and artist residencies, in partnership with some of the leading contemporary theatre producers in Manchester. Ran by artists and academics connected to the dept, Flare events affords MMU students opportunities to volunteer and gain greater understanding of the sector.

Axis Arts Centre programmer Neil Mackenzie has worked with HÅb Arts over a number of years in the delivery of a number of artist development schemes, festivals and performance opportunities. The Dept of Contemporary Arts is a member of the development agency, affording us knowledge of and access to industry training events, placements, job opportunities, events and project.
