Artscool returns for the fifth year

Friday 23 June, 2017

A school, college and university festival celebrating aspirations, achievement and creativity through the Arts.

Monday 26th June sees the start of a week-long festival of creativity, hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University on the Cheshire Campus. Now in its fifth year, the festival will welcome 10 schools and 550+ pupils onto campus throughout the week to participate in a range of creative workshops, tours, exhibitions and performances.

This year’s Artscool theme is inspired by #UKIndia2017; the UK-India Year of Culture. Exploring the journeys that we make creatively and culturally, Artscools’ theme celebrates cultural partnership and the benefits of working together to share talents and ideas, which allow us to create, innovate and reinvent across borders.

This year we have received support from world leading Ice Cream Van manufacturer Whitby Morrison. Not only have they lent us a vintage ice-cream van for inclusion in our outdoor seaside themed installation, but they have also offered to provide a free ice-cream to all 550+ pupils taking part in Artscool across the week.

As part of the festival, we also launch the Picture This... exhibition on Monday 26 June. The project involved weekly in-school workshops focusing on aspirations, inspiration and motivation using photography and creative writing. The pupils’ work culminated in a framed poster each, which will form part of the Picture This... exhibition in the Open Space of the Contemporary Arts Building for the duration of Artscool. Pupils will be on campus on Monday 26 June to tour the campus, participate in creative workshops, meet Manchester Met students and open their exhibition at 1pm.
