The Department of Contemporary Arts at MMU Cheshire has a national and international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research, and its lasting commitment to new arts practice.
The Department of Contemporary Arts offers undergraduate degree programmes in Art Media Performance, Community Arts (in conjunction with one of the Combined Honours Arts subjects listed below), Contemporary Crafts, Contemporary Theatre and Performance, Creative Writing and Dance, as well as Combined Honours Arts subjects - Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Creative Music Production, Music and Popular Music. Art Media Performance can also be combined with any one of the Combined Honours Arts subjects, and Single Honours programmes in Drama, Music, Creative Music Production and Popular Music will be coming on stream in September 2008.
Our Postgraduate provision includes research degrees at MA (Res), MPhil and PhD levels alongside our taught programme, MA Contemporary Arts (MACA), which has a range of named subject outcomes, including Contemporary Crafts, Dance, Drama, Music, Performance, Theatre, Experimental Poetry, Visual Culture and Writing. The Department has a reputation for pioneering Practice as Research PhD’s, and its teaching provision across all areas was formally graded as ‘excellent’ in the last Quality Assurance Agency review in 2000.

Location
The department have now moved into a brand new building, complete with six large performance studios, on the Crewe campus.
