Business Development

The Business Development team in the Department of Business and Management Studies has been established to develop and integrate commercial activities, as well as to build links with the Cheshire community, and appropriate local agencies and professional bodies.

Business Activities

We place a high emphasis on our links with local businesses and the professions and believe in close collaboration to generate benefits for organisations, their employees and the region. To this end the department offers a wide offering of services that can offer support to local businesses large and small. This includes a portfolio of training and development courses that address a number of business needs covering technical as well as softer skills. These courses can be delivered in a way that will suit you and your staff's needs.

In addition to the provision of courses, Business Development has access to academic experts who can provide you with specialist advice for one off issues. Alternatively more fundamental business concerns can also be addressed, such as how to maintain your competitive edge, or mentoring. We have areas of academic research that are practically based on business issues from Strategy Development to HR and Marketing and can help develop IPR that has real market potential.

We actively seek business collaboration as a useful way of developing research projects and accessing the market. Many of our staff undertake consultancy in order to apply their research knowledge in real life situations. Our students, supported by their tutors, take on live projects as part of their study. For the Department, University / Business Research and Development is a positive partnership for both parties.

Links with the Community

The department aims to build relationships within the region and be active in regional developments. We wish to support the development of entrepreneurship in the region by developing supportive links in terms of skills development, business partnerships, knowledge transfer, social inclusion and community projects. To this end, the department currently sponsors awards for the Chamber of Commerce, and is actively involved in a number of regional projects involving Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, research into the development and support of small local businesses and support for women owned businesses.
