Within organisations big and small throughout the world the underlying concepts of business continue to operate, day in, day out. Our general courses in business management, alongside specialisms in core business disciplines such as finance or marketing, provide the very best foundation from which to build your future career.
The department is adept at delivering degree programmes that produce highly skilled and successful graduates that develop a thorough knowledge of the strategies needed to succeed in business.
We also have a Business Development team that develops commercial activities and builds links with the Cheshire business community, local agencies and professional bodies. This close collaboration generates benefits for organisations, their employees and the region. Services include training and development courses that address a number of business needs, access to academic experts who can provide specialist advice, and the development of research projects. We also support the development of entrepreneurship in the region by developing links in terms of skills development, business partnerships, knowledge transfer, social inclusion and community projects. The department currently sponsors awards for the Chamber of Commerce, and is actively involved in a number of regional projects involving Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, research into the development and support of small local businesses and support for women-owned businesses.
Our research agenda aims to provide management knowledge to address issues facing individuals, organisations and society and improve the transfer of this knowledge. Members of the Department are actively involved in research in their own particular subject areas and in integrated research projects that draw on expertise from across a number of disciplines in the UK and overseas.
A diverse range of research experience, expertise and interests spanning the full range of Business and Management functions and activities is offered. This includes strategic thinking, performance management, management accounting, knowledge management and management education. The interaction with other specialist departments at the Cheshire campus, such as sports, exercise, contemporary arts and humanities, has developed further expertise in researching the business and management dimensions of these fields. Research in the department is also aligned to the Research Centre for Business and Society of the Faculty of Business and Law.
